Round 39-1/4" smoothbore steel barrel, .72 caliber, sight mounted on top and bayonet lug mounted on bottom. French proofmarks at breech, tang marked with small 7" and "Ml 1777." Flintlock mechanism with reinforced cock, brass pan, and marked "IV/MANUFRE/A VERSAILLES" in center of lockplate, also marked with scattered proofs. Typical steel furniture, barrel bands, sling swivels, and ramrod, many parts proofed or marked with small "7". Partially figured walnut stock with cheekpiece cutout on left side of buttstock. Good condition, all steel components have been heavily cleaned, some sanding marks and wear to markings, some markings possibly re-applied. Stock very good, as refinished, with some minor marks and repairs to last segment of forend.
