Bird-head pommel ornamented in deeply engraved and stippled floral ornaments that continue on the spine as well as on the top of the counter guard and sides of the quillon. Matching lower ferrule also engraved. Bulbous ivory grip with checkered panel on right side. Hilt features languettes; the right side with a highly relief eagle with arrows on a stippled ground. Curved steel blade with large single fuller and a unique guilt designs with blued outlines including right side with large letters "US/of A" with military motifs. Black leather scabbard with large embossed silver mounts. These ornate mounts feature Lady Liberty on the top mount, a patriotic eagle with arms on the mount, and a large oak leaf on the tip with a scaled serpent drag. The Rococo ornamental mounts are not decorated on the reverse except for the snake drag and scalloped edges. Hilt: 6-1/2”. Total: 39”. Copy of "American Silver-Hilted Revolutionary and Early Federal Swords by Daniel Hartzler", featuring this sword will be included.This sword is featured on page 52, figure 39. Excellent condition, blade retains 70-80% original polish, gilt, and blue accents with scattered areas of brown patina and light pitting surrounded by dark patina, one minor nick at top, near tip. Hilt and mounts excellent and polished with a few light marks. Grip retains a yellow patina with some crazing and an age crack along bottom. Scabbard has losses to finish and areas of heavy crazing. Stitching excellent and no holes or tears.
