Light bulb-shaped glass globe filled with either saline or tetrachloride. The wall-mount was designed in such a way that, in the event of a fire, when the temperature reached about 160°F a spring-loaded pin would shatter the globe and disperse the liquid onto the fire to suppress the flames. These types of fire suppressants went out of fashion in the 1970s when it was discovered that tetrachloride is toxic to the central nervous system when combined with fire.
