Tapered round barrel with rectangular bayonet stud on top of muzzle and stamped "V / P" with eagles head at breech, tang is dated 1836. Flat lockplate with rounded tang stamped "HARPER'S / FERRY / 1836" and stamped in center with large eagle over "U.S.". Brass pan and reinforced cock. Standard Type III Model 1836 steel furniture, each component stamped with the number "8". Buttplate also stamped "U.S.". Full length walnut buttstock, replaced steel ramrod. Complete with Model 1816 socket bayonet. Good condition; all steel components have been cleaned and retain a grey or brown patina with some light pitting overall, heavier around touch hole. Cock possibly a replacement. Top jaw finial has been replaced. Sling swivels are missing and sling swivel stud on barrel band has been filed off. Stock has been heavily sanded and lacks finish. Some shrinkage around barrel tang, scattered marks from use and a few cracks and gouges filled with plastic wood. Bayonet retains a grey patina with a crack on socket and some nicks on edges.
