Diminutive rifled octagonal barrel with proportional small front and rear sights, signed in center "T. Allisson" in script on top flat. Small handmade lock. Partially figured length maple stock with short 11" pull and carved cheek piece. Diminutive brass furniture includes buttplate, trigger guard with acorn engraved finial, two piece sideplate with acorn and leaf, ramrod ferrules and nose cap. Replaced wooden ramrod. Excellent condition; barrel and lock retain a dark grey patina with some light pitting, signature is excellent. Brass retains a mellow patina. Stock very good but a later coat of varnish has been added. One small piece of wood replaced above front lock tang and about 3-1/2" of forend have been professionally replaced at muzzle. Also a small chip at toe has been replaced. Otherwise very good with a few scattered marked from use. This rifle is one of very few original rifles there were actually made for a child. Thomas Allisson, who worked in Washington and Beaver counties from 1807 to 1836, was a prominent Western Pennsylvania gunsmith who learned his trade from the famous Joel Ferree.
