French two-stage smoothbore steel barrel, stamped with early 18th century French proof mark on left flat, near breech. Flat tapered section along top of barrel and brass half moon sight towards muzzle. Original flintlock configuration, lockplate is stamp engraved and stamped "LONDAN/WARRANTED" Early engraved steel French trigger guard and buttplate. Silver convex New England wrist escutcheon, engraved with finely executed floral insignia. Full length walnut stock of classic New England form. Excellent condition; original flintlock configuration and no repairs or replaced parts. Barrel and lock have a dark brown patina, as does furniture. Stock excellent with a few scattered marks from use and some minor shrinkage around barrel. A fine example of an 18th century New England Fowler.
