Circa 1830's. Slightly clip point blade with almost 8” sharpened false edge ground mainly from one side, marked "SCHIVELY, 75 CHESNUT ST., PHILAD". One piece checkered ivory handle with nickel silver pommel, ferrule, pins, washers and ball end guard. Leather sheath with incised decoration, nickel silver throat, tip, and side straps. Blade with light sharpening, tip slightly blunted, handle in superb condition. Sheath’s original leather surface is heavily flaked, metal mounts have been soldered together for stability.

This knife was acquired from the estate of Mary Hampton, Granddaughter of Confederate General Wade Hampton III, in the early 1990's. It is the largest known Schively knife of any kind. Accompanied by a binder containing information on the knife’s provenance, on Hampton, and on Schively.
