Circa 1830-40's. Blade with forged bolster, sharpened false edge ground from one side only. One piece ivory handle with raised checkered panels on obverse and reverse, silver pins inlaid on reverse, mounted in silver. Original silver sheath with frog stud and ball tip, engraved with foliate elements and stamped "S. BELL". Blade has been lightly cleaned with light pits remaining, apparent repairs to ferrule and to sheath tip, throat, and spine. Signature on sheath is unlike those on other known Bell objects. Ex. Dave Petty, Mike Worley collections. This knife exhibits characteristics of Bell’s early work in Knoxville, Tennessee.
