Smoothbore octagonal barrel with two gold bands and a platinum band inlaid on patent breech, tang and breech engraved with fine and detailed scrolls. Small sights on top flat, which is inscribed "SEARLES & F'PATRICK" on top flat. Back-action lockplate and hammer engraved with scrolls and marked "Searles & F'Patrick". Silver barrel key escutcheons, vacant wrist escutcheon and nosecap. Engraved steel triggerguard and sideplate, which mirrors shape of lockplate. Walnut half-stock with cane grip, checkered on both sides. Good condition, barrel retains a grey patina with scattered marks, areas of minor pitting and edge wear. Lock retains a matching grey patina with some darker areas and scattered marks from use. Hammer has been repaired. Silver has scattered dents and marks, retains an unpolished patina. Triggerguard retains a dark brown patina. Stock has some wear on checkering and scattered marks. An important pistol, as it shows the high quality and confirmation of a partnership between Daniel Searles and Rees Fitzpatrick, both important figures in the Bowie knife story.
