The function of this piece remains a bit of a mystery. We can say that it wouldn't function as a Keno goose or as a bird cage. It has a very heavy brass base holding a spherical cage of brass rods and topped with a copper ball. Running horizontally through the middle of the cage is a thick steel bar onto which three brass figurines have been mounted. The only markings are on the brass "equator" strip that is stamped, "Jost Å Paris". Two of the brass rods making up the sphere are missing.
