Joseph Lang worked at 22 Cockspur Street in Charing Cross and the business became Joseph Lang & Son in 1875 until 1887. Round Damascus steel barrels with solid rib and single steel bead. Rib marked with large "1" and "JOSEPH LANG & SONS, 22 COCKSPUR STREET, PALL MALL. LONDON". Recoil shields and rib at breech engraved with spiraling English scrolls. Rebounding lock actions with rounded hammers, locks and hammers profusely engraved with finely executed scroll work. Opener located on top tang and engraved en suite. Both locks marked "JOSEPH LANG & SONS". Blued engraved triggerguard with double triggers. All numbers are matching. Highly figured walnut straight stock with checkered wrist, vacant silver oval escutcheon on bottom and thick checkered horn buttplate. Figured walnut splinter forearm with large checkered panel. Complete with reproduction English leather case with brass hardware including round vacant plaque on top of lid, brass lock and corner protectors. Partitioned green felt interior with two lidded compartments. Inside of lid displays a reproduction Joseph Lang & Son label. Excellent condition, as refinished, barrels retain about 95% of rebrowned finish, bores are excellent and shiny, left barrel has one minor exterior dent. Actions are tight and hammer springs are strong. Engraving on actions and locks is excellent. Triggerguard worn with most engraving polished off and retaining about 90% blued finish. Stocks excellent with a few light storage marks and fore arm with two pieces of replaced wood, where barrel wedge was originally located. Case excellent with a few light marks.
