Scarce bar-in-wood action is a direct descendant of muzzleloading shotguns. Round Damascus steel barrels with solid rib and single silver bead; marked on top "WILLIAM POWELL & SON, 13 CARRS LANE, BIRMINGHAM / PATENT". Rib terminates in an engraved doll's head extension at breech. Sidelocks with external hammers, each lockplate marked "WILLIAM POWELL & SON" and engraved with detailed borders. Features include cross bolt and double triggers. Unique two piece walnut English straight stock with checkered wrist and forearm with Deeley release and horn end cap. Buttstock has a horn buttplate as well and vacant silver oval escutcheon on bottom. Very good condition; as restored. Good shiny bores with some minor spotting. Actions tight and hammers strong. Barrels retain about 95% of reapplied Damascus finish with some freckling beneath finish and a few scattered marks from use. Locks and breeches retain a grey patina. Reblued steel trigger guard with some scattered freckling beneath finish. Stock is very good as refinished and re-checkered.
