One of the most popular weapons with soldiers on both sides, widely desired and used weapons of the Great Conflict was the series of Sharps single shot breech loading carbines. Features full round barrel, blade and post front sight, Sharps military folding rear sight, falling block action, outside hammer, walnut forend, single barrel band, walnut stock (no patchbox), and saddle ring bar and ring on left side. Wood is in very good to excellent condition with usual dings, proud to metal, with nice finish. The metal appears to have sat for 150 years without ever being cleaned or oiled, and as such, has a deep, rich brown patina with a textured feel to the metal. As a result, barrel legends are visible but not readable. Bore shows rifling but does have black powder residue; probably put away not cleaned or somewhere in a barn where it rested its entire life. Would make a handsome Civil War display piece.
