It is estimated that only a few hundred of these pistols were ever manufactured in various barrel lengths, with the 4-3/4" being amongst the rarest. These were manufactured by Mauser expressly for A.F. Stoeger Inc., New York. These were sold in the U.S. in the mid-1930's. The Stoeger variation is considered the finest finished Luger ever manufactured. This example features the 1906 type slim tapered barrel. Top of the chamber is stamped with the American eagle. Toggle has the DWM script stamp. Right side rail is stamped "Genuine Luger - Registered U.S. Patent Office". Right side of frame is stamped "A.F. Stoeger Inc. New York Germany". Front of frame is stamped 487 and "Germany". Pistol has all matching numbers. Features the commercial grade factory blue finish. Straw colored takedown, trigger, safety and extractor. Nitre blue pins and parts. Pistol exhibits some very light high edge rail and sideplate wear. Still retains 98% or better high polish original blue. Checkered walnut grips are near mint (not numbered). Has the nickel magazine with wood bottom (no numbers or stamps). Even the grip screws retain virtually all of their Nitre blue finish. Exact production number of this model is unknown, and given the rarity and condition, it would be virtually impossible to find a finer example. This is one of the great rarities of Luger collecting.
