These were manufactured by Mauser for certain units in the German Army, and it is theorized that this variation was produced for police and non-military users. The 1939 is the earliest reported. It is dated above the chamber. Mauser banner on toggle. All matching numbers. Right side of frame has German eagle with "X" in circle. It has the blued finish, including small parts. Checkered walnut grips panels are not numbered. Has an aluminum bottom magazine numbered to gun. Magazine is stamped "Haenel Schmeisser Patent" with identical eagle with "X" in circle. Grip straps have turned grey patina with the usual wear on rails, muzzle and sideplate. Balance of gun retains approximately 80% original factory blue. Fine bore and action. It is estimated that only a few thousand of this model were manufactured from 1939 to 1942.
