This is an extremely early revolver made in the first year of production 1878. Standard in all respects with blued finish and Smith & Wesson black composite grips. Matching serial number on barrel and cylinder. Gun has traces of original blue in recesses; otherwise smooth, clean patina. Action locks up perfectly. Strong bore with light abrasion. Factory letter states that this .44 Frontier, caliber .44-40, was shipped October 29th, 1890 and delivered to Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Company, Chicago with 6-1/2", blue finish and checkered hard rubber grips.
