Round rifled barrel with bayonet lug/front sight mounted on top near muzzle and two leaf rear sight. Breech stamped "1864" on top and left side stamped "V / P / (Eagle's Head)" and "NJ". Flat percussion lockplate dated 1863 at tail, stamped with large eagle and "U.S. / TRENTON" in center. Standard Model 1861 steel furniture with replaced brass buttplate. Plain walnut stock cut and extended probably during period of use as last 3" are replaced. Stock branded "O.J. WOOD / DIME SAVING / 221 W 12TH" on original portion of buttstock on right side. Left side opposite lock stamped with cartouche and "E.K.K.". Fair to poor condition; barrel and all steel components have been heavily cleaned and have some scattered areas of deep pitting. Trigger guard is heavily pitted. Stock fair with break in wrist repaired and showing some scattered marked from use.
