This is a standard U.S. issue Saddle Ring Carbine from the Indian Wars period. Standard 1873 carbine stamped rear sight, original saddle ring bar and ring, single band. Block is stamped “U.S. / MODEL / 1873”. Left side of walnut stock has a visible but not readable cartouche. Has traces of the script “P” on wrist. This is a very good, solid, as found all original trapdoor carbine. Metal is a soft brown patina with some generous traces of blue finish on lockplate, furniture, and sight. Wood is very good to excellent with no cracks and one chip on left side of barrel tang, scattered marks from use overall. Fine action. Very good bore shiny with visible rifling. Breech block opening lever possibly replaced.
