According to the factory letter this pistol was shipped November 9th, 1944 to the United States government Springfield Armory in Springfield, Massachusetts commanding officer. It was issued to Major Francis H. Corgan. Comes with original war finance release papers dated December 16th, 1946 listing gun by serial number. The War Department did not issue contracts for the .380 pistols until 1944. Under factory Order 4897 shipment to War Department, these .380's featured the blued finish with the serrated ramp front and flat top rear sight with the Ordnance wheel stamped at left rear of frame. A total of 1,521 pistols were in this contract; 1,221 were shipped to the armory, 1,209 of which were sent to Springfield Armory. Features a full blued finish with Colt silver medallion checkered walnut grips. No dot on left trigger guard. Has the standing pony on left rear. Right side frame is stamped "U.S. Property". Pistol appears unfired. Retains 98% original high polish factory blue finish with some light high edge wear. A couple of minute storage marks and freckles. Has a six hole last type magazine, fully blued and stamped "CAL. 380 COLT". Comes in an original type cardboard box, serial number written on bottom with wax paper, instructions and cleaning rod. Has a copy of the original schedule of collections and factory letter. Total production for U.S. Model 1908 was 3,128.
