Curved steel blade with large single fuller. Blade partially blued and engraved with gilt designs on each side and inscribed "Vaincre/ou mourir" and with indistinct maker's mark on each side. Brass hilt with large pierced wagon wheel guard and counterguard with relief lion. Cast relief lions head pommel with brown leather grip wrapped with braided brass wire. Good condition, blade retains generous traces of blue and gilt finishes with scattered areas of pitting and dark spots. Hilt slightly bent and retains a heavy green patina. Grip excellent with some wire slightly loose.
