This lot consists of a portrait of the first President of the United States of America, George Washington. This portrait of President Washington depicts his body in a three quarter profile with his face turned just slightly, while his eyes gaze to the right to something far in the distance. He dons a black coat, with a fur-like collar and a high collared white shirt with bow at the nape of the neck, as was traditional in colonial America. Washington is depicted with a serious face, as needed for anyone holding the office of the President. He almost appears as if he is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. The painting is signed on the lower right and dated 1793. On the verso of the painting, there is a note saying that the painting was painted by Edward Savage. The painting is framed in a large wooden and gold colored frame that is heavily and ornately carved. Normal wear is present along with some crazing on the canvas. The piece was not examined out of the frame.

Condition: (Very Good - Excellent).

Item Dimensions: Framed: 42-1/2" x 47-1/2".
