He was a representative in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives for the state of Kentucky. Not only was he part of the politics that shaped the United States, he was also the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Clay played a major role during President Adams presidency as the Secretary of State. He was so deeply immersed in the political world in the 19th century, that he ran for office three times-1824, 1832, and 1844. As we know from history, he did not win the highest office, but he did assist in founding the Whig Party.
