Between 1935 and 1945 approximately 13,800 Service Model Ace .22 target pistols were built on the Model 1911 frame for the United States military for training purposes. This particular example was made in 1941. Left side of the frame has the "R.S." inspector stamp in box (Robert Sears 1937-1941). This was one of the last pre-Pearl Harbor pistols manufactured and is finished in the Colt commercial blue and features fully checkered walnut grips, checkered trigger, checkered arched mainspring housing, checkered wide spur hammer, checkered slide stop and safety. Right side of the slide is stamped "Colt Service Model Ace .22 Long Rifle". Sports the factory Stevens adjustable rear target sight and serrated high front sight. Slide is serial numbered to frame. Has a blued barrel with polished chamber and rounded crown. Left side of slide has the patent dates. This is a beautiful example of this fairly scarce pistol. Has some high muzzle wear and some freckling on front grips strap; still retains 95% or better original Colt factory blue. Comes with the original full blued magazine stamped "COLT 22 ACE L.R. SERVICE MODEL".
