Circa 1840-50's. Length fully open 8-7/8”. Closed length 5-1/8”. Dagger ground spear point blade marked G CROOKES & CO. SHEFFIELD. Swell center handle with foliate nickel silver guard and horsehead pommel with cannon and fouled anchor motif, ivory handle scales with escutcheon on obverse. Blade shows some use, has been cleaned, locks up and snaps shut well. One crack in obverse scale. Horsehead pommels are one of the most desirable types among Sheffield knives. George Crookes & Co. was located at 95 Norfolk Street in Sheffield and was active under that name from the late 1840's through the 1850's but gone by 1862.
