Manufactured in 1892. Factory letter states; Type: Rifle Caliber: .40/82 Barrel Type: Octagon Trigger: Set Checkered Stock, pistol grip, 1/2 magazine. Shipped December 6, 1892. One of the rarest combinations is an octagon barrel with a button magazine, as is this example. The factory does not denote the special 24" barrel (2" short than standard), but given the condition of the rifle, special order features, the perfect muzzle and perfect front sight set back 1" on center, it is definitely all factory and features everything noted in letter with the exception of the rear sight that has a marble blank and sports a period tang sight. Barrel retains approximately 80% original factory blue finish with mixing of brown patina and toned razor sharp edges with sharp as new legends. Case colors on nose cap have grayed out. Right side of frame has approximately 15%-20% color, balance patterned and nickeled out. Left side of frame has approximately 40% colors with balance of strong patterns and nickeled out, base is nickeled out. Bolt retains approximately 70% original blue, very strong case colors on sides of lever and hammer. Phenomenal piano finish triple X fiery grain walnut stocks with near perfect checkering. Pistol grip has no cap but has the ebony in-set. Strong clean rifled bore and perfect action. A superb case colored deluxe 1886.
