Manufactured 1883. David F. Clark inspected the U.S. Colt single action beginning in March of 1880 through March of 1887. Serial number range for his inspected Colts were 1,000 guns from serial number 41000 to 42000 (built 1878, inspected 1880) and serial number 53000 to 121000. This example was built in 1883 for the United States military. It was in the standard blue and case colored configuration with varnished one piece walnut grips. Has all of the proper era parts, to include hammer, ejector rod housing, and do-nut ejector rod head. Features/stamps: barrel is stamped "DFC 5778" and "P"; frame is stamped "DFC 95778"; trigger guard is stamped "95778" with "G"; cylinder is stamped "5778", "DFC" and "P"; backstrap is stamped "95778" and "G"; you can see a cartouche on both sides of the grip but neither are readable; "U.S." stamped on left side of frame; has three line patent dates on left side of frame; proper style barrel address. No readable pencil number in grip channel. This gun retains lots of original condition. Barrel retains approximately 70% of the original luster factory blue finish. Left side of frame retains 30% original case colors, right side 20%. Assembly No. 2022 on loading gate. Cylinder has traces of blue in flutes. Most of the screws are concentric, two on left side of frame have been marred. Grips are very good to excellent with no major chips or cracks. Backstrap is a grey patina. All four Colt clicks. Cylinder is basically brown patina, as are straps and trigger guard. Locks up perfectly. Excellent strong bore. Rarely do you find a true mid-1880's Cavalry revolver with this much original finish.
