Octagonal barrel marked on top flat with serial number and "HENRY'S PATENT OCT. 16, 1860/MANUFACT'D BY THE NEW HAVEN ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN, CT." Right side, near breech, stamped "C.G.C./H" for what is believed to be inspector Charles G. Chapman. Early folding adjustable rear sight and magazine tube integrated with barrel. Standard Type I brass frame with "H" inspector's mark on both sides, near barrel intersection. Steel hammer and lever. Plain walnut buttstock, brass buttplate and four-piece cleaning rod. Very good condition, barrel retains a spotted grey patina with clear markings and excellent bore with deep grooves and only minor black powder abrasions. Brass frame was polished some time ago and retains a mellowing patina with a few minor scattered marks from use. Stock is probably a period replacement, as it is correct and period, but unmarked and the buttplate is not martially marked and has a non-matching number. Probably from another commercial gun, stock has scattered marks from use, wear and some shrinkage. Buttplate screws are period-make-do replacements. Hammer and lever retain an even grayish brown patina. Overall, this is a very nice and honest martially marked U.S. Civil War Henry in above average condition.
