The original numbered version of this statue was produced in 1902. All original Remington bronzes will be numbered; this example is not. The additional castings of this statue have been made from 1902 to present day; many with cheap, lightweight bronze and now offered in every conceivable size. The originals bring upwards of a half million dollars. The next pricing tier for Remington bronzes are those that were made prior to World War II in the same actual size as the originals that were produced by foundries after the original patent had run out. These early castings are quite desirable in that the detail, while not as crisp as the numbered originals, are still as close as one could get to a numbered version. This is such a casting. Most likely produced in the 1930's as a very heavy bronze, it was cast in the exact size and detail as the original. Like the original, it does not comes with a fancy marble base, bears the impressed Frederick Remington signature, has the original wire lariat and rope. The detail in the casting is amazing, you can still see all the delicate cartridge loops and border tooling on holster. The stirrups swivel. Measures 23-1/8" high, just as the original and is complete with no broken, missing or replaced pieces, nor does it have any repairs. Since most of the original numbered versions are accounted for and the pricing has relegated most known examples to museum collections, these early post-patent castings have soared in value and desirability and not to be confused with the myriad of cheap, modern castings of the last 30 years.
