This lot consists of a large paintings of three portraits major political figures during the 1800s, from the Whig Party. These portraits solely portray the busts of the three gentlemen pictured. President Zachary Taylor, Daniel Webster and Henry Clay. On the left side of the canvas is Henry Clay, and Daniel Webster on the right side. Both politicians face each other, however they gaze out to the viewer, not at one another. President Taylor, the 12th President, hovers above both figures in the upper center of the painting. President Taylor, is depicted larger, and much more prominent. It as if he is in the dark or stepped back into the shadow. This President is painted looking at the viewer face on. All three of the figures are painted in different style suits, while President Taylor, the figure in the shadow, appears to have the neck collar that would be reminiscent of a military uniform. Both Clay and Webster were members of the House of Representatives and had the role of Secretary of State. However, one claim to fame that Webster has, that he alone shares with one other person (James Blaine) is that he was the Secretary of State for three presidents- President Harrison, President Tyler and President Fillmore.
