This lot consists of a portrait of President Grover Cleveland, who was the 22nd (1893-1897) and the 24th (1885-1889) President of the United States. President Cleveland is, as to date, the only President that has been elected twice, but not as two consecutive years in office. That being said, he ran for presidency multiple times, and was the winner by popular vote three times- in 1884, 1888 and in 1892. Depicted in the portrait, President Cleveland looks as if he is wiser than he appears. He dons a muted greyish green suit with white collard shirt and tie. The President is seated in front of a dark colored background. The manner in which the artist has painted the figure, it is reminiscent of the impressionist artists. Overall the painting is in good condition with normal wear and craquelure present. The painting is framed in a wooden golden colored frame.
