This is one of the most unique and possibly the only such revolver ever shipped. The factory letter lists features as follows: Caliber: .44 S&W Barrel Length: 5-1/2" Finish: Blue Type of Stocks: Rubber Special Features: Furnished with an extra .44-40 cylinder, an extra pair of wood stocks, and an extra pair of ivory stocks with carved eagle motif. Sold to: George H. Crocker Jr. Address: Unavailable Shipped to: Bob Smith Sporting Goods Company Address: Boston, Massachusetts Date of shipment: April 18th, 1927 Colt Factory Order: 12899/1 Number of Same Type Guns in Shipment: 1 The barrel is stamped stamped "Russian & S&W Special .44" on left side. Standard address on top. Two line patent and pony on left side of frame. Frame and hammer retain virtually all of their original brilliant case colors. The cylinder has a light drag line and a couple minor age freckles, but likewise retains nearly all of its original blue finish. There is a hint of wear at the muzzle but retains nearly all of its original factory blue, as does ejector rod housing, trigger guard and backstrap. Bore is as new. Blued screw heads are perfect. The extra cylinder as has a light drag line and a couple of age freckles, but it, too, retains nearly all of its original factory blue. There is an envelope that contains extra small parts including a trigger and mainspring. Original box has labels on both lid and base. End labels reads "S&W Cartridge" on a white label with the standard "5-1/2, .44" blue label. Matching number on bottom of box in pencil. Original box is in very good shape; does have one detached apron, the majority of which remains in the box. The rubber grips and wood grips are no longer present. The ivory grips are installed on the gun with silver medallions, beautiful color and in near mint condition. Right panel is carved with an eagle and American shield. This pre-war Colt Single Action Army is about as nice as you can expect to find, but the factory letter stating shipment with an extra cylinder is rare. To have been shipped with three sets of grips is unheard of; and the combination of .44 S&W Russian and .44-40 it is also unheard of. Truly stunning, one-of-a-kind, boxed pre-war Colt Single Action Army in near new condition inside and out.
