Louis Francois Devisme was a French gun maker operating out of Paris. He participated in the Paris exhibitions of 1839, 1844, 1849, 1855 and 1867 and in London 1851 and 1862. He was awarded the Legion d'Honneur on January 24th, 1863. Retired and passed away in 1873. This is a scarce and rarely seen weapon. It is a percussion but a firing pin comes through the center to ignite the cap. Has an octagon barrel and checkered wooden panel grips entirely cased in metal frame with oiler in buttstock. Top of barrel is stamped "F.P. Devisme A Paris". Serial No. 105 is stamped on top of the barrel and grip frame. Right side of stock is stamped 7220. Inspector stamp "DV" with a crown on bottom of frame and cylinder. Cylinder also stamped with "AF" with crown. Front of the frame is stamped "AF" and crown. Left side of barrel is stamped "Devisme Bte" and 289. Left side of frame has also a "V" with crown. Has a blade front sight. The cocking of the hammer rotates the cylinder but has no function in the firing. Metal is basically a clean gun metal grey. Excellent stocks. Loaded by tipping the barrel forward. Strong clean bore. Indexes and locks up perfectly.
