Manufactured 1917 for the U.S. government. Left side of frame has the "GHS" Inspection stamp (Gilbert Stewart 1915-1918). Original period Colt barrel with intertwined "HP" (210000-580000 serial range). All correct World War I checkered small parts to include short wide spur hammer, slide stop, and safety. Smooth backstrap with lanyard, long smooth trigger, correct matching slide with Colt pony in center on left side, correct diamond checkered walnut grips, and brown magazine with lanyard loop. Grip straps are worn to grey. Balance of frame retains approximately 80% original blue. Original finish on slide remains at 75% with strong blue on left side and wear on high edges. Comes with paperwork with photocopy of a letter written by Colonel K.F. Hanst stating he has owned this pistol since 1923 and was his own personal property (letter dated 1947). Also includes handbook and a 1940's holster.
