In 1971, Colt produced 2,500 special edition Model 1911 NRA Centennial Gold Cup .45 automatic pistols. Has all the standard Gold Cup features but was finished in a high polish royal blue. "GOLD CUP NATIONAL MATCH" with trophy filled in gold on right side of slide. Fully checkered walnut grips feature the special NRA gold medallion. Left side of slide is stamped "1871 NRA CENTENNIAL 1971 THE FIRST 100 YEARS OF SERVICE .45 AUTOMATIC CALIBER". Gun is new, unfired, in its original cardboard box with walnut and glass original display case and original shipping box. Box has all the original paperwork and bears the same serial number as several other commemoratives in this auction from the same consignor.
