This has to be one of the finest condition all original U.S. Army Colt Model 1911's made in 1914, third full year production for U.S. military 1911's. Features include 1913 patent date on slide with pony at rear (no circle; correct for serial number 20001 to 285000), type two rear sight (correct), correct diamond checkered walnut grips, long smooth trigger, flat mainspring with lanyard, checkered slide stop and safety. The high polish blued barrel is stamped with an "HP" sans serif perpendicular to line of bore (correct for serial number 25001 to 110000). Has a very light stamp on left side of frame inspector "G.H.S." (Gilbert H. Stewart - serial number 101500 to 230000). Features the extremely rare Type II two tone magazine with lanyard base and the scarce keyhole slot on back and five holes. The book refers to this as a the Type II-B magazine with slight indentation on the top right side wall which the Type II-A does not. As to condition, aside from a very light takedown line, this pistol retains fully 98-99% original blue finish. There is a little light wear at the forward edge of the frame with a couple of age freckles, and a little light high edge muzzle wear on slide with a few minor aging freckles (not rust or pitting). Grips screws have 75% of the original Nitre blue with some slight marring from tightening. Beautiful, near mint Colt U.S. Army Model 1911 with spectacular grips and made in 1914 that would be nearly impossible to improve on.
