Has all matching numbers on frame, barrel, cylinder and latch. The Second Model Russian features the extreme backstrap knuckle, round butt, trigger guard spur and long ejector housing with half moon front sight, standard rear, blued finish, six shot, single action, smooth walnut grips and lanyard ring in butt. Has the American barrel stamp with no Russian mention. Also has the Second Model retention screw, Naval anchor with two waves stamp at base of frame. This anchor is a Type A anchor that was applied to the first cartridge handgun officially adopted by the Japanese Imperial Army and Navy. It was referred to as the "Sumisuandousson Kenjyu" and used by the Navy from 1878 to 1909. This is from the first order of 1878-1879 with reissue barrel stamping. Information on this revolver can be found in the book "Japanese Military Cartridge Handguns 1893-1945" by Derby and Brown; page 274-275, where an identical revolver is pictured with the exception that this revolver has a lanyard ring. It falls into the first order, serial range 1 to 9000 with 5,000 total Model 3 Russian Second Model, H. Ahrens & Co. (agent). The gun has survived in smooth, clean grey patina. Grips are very good to excellent with usual small dings. Indexes and locks up as new. Strong, clean bore. Far above average, as these guns saw heavy use in salt water sea climate. Excellent, all original example.
