The First Model Schofield was manufactured for the U.S. Government in 1875 only. Has "L" inspector mark on cylinder. Walnut stock with "1951" stamped in right, very good with repair and nothing stamped on left panel. Serial stamp with star on butt with "US". Return date stamped inside 10-19, most likely for repair as revolver shows no signs of refinishing. Matching number on cylinder. Factory blue finish is now basically brown patina with flashes of original blue. Walnut grips are very good to excellent with usual dings. Cartouche on left panel is visible but not readable. Perfect action and lock-up. Strong, clean bore. This is considered a First Model with first type latch. Retains traces of blue in recesses. Razor sharp legends and edges. Right side has some minor age freckling. Very nice, early U.S. Schofield.
