The story of the resurrection and modification of the original Colt Cavalry Models into what is known as the Artillery Model at the turn of the 20th century is well documented. This is one of the finest examples of an Artillery Model that we have handled. Following is a list of parts and numbers: Frame: RAC (Renaldo Carr) 139560 Barrel: CP (Casey) 9314 Trigger guard: J (Johnson) 17193 Backstrap: 1543 Cylinder: A (Ainsworth) 5027 Barrel retains 85-90% lustrous Colt blue. Cylinder retains 60% original blue. Trigger guard retains 70% original blue starting to thin. Backstrap retains 70% blue starting to thin. Frame retains nearly all of its case colors, most brilliant. All screws retain nearly 90% of their high polish Nitre blue finish. 70% bright case on hammer. Traces of case colors on loading gate Varnished walnut grips are excellent to near mint; slight shy from refinishing with a slight chip at right front toe. Ejector rod housing retains approximately 95% original blue. We use the term original as reapplied at the Springfield Armory at time of conversion from 7-1/2" to 5-1/2" barrel. Perfect action. Strong, rifled bore with light frosting. A lovely, untouched Artillery in about as nice as condition as one could expect to find.
