Curved nickel plated blade with etched and engraved designs. Right side with flags, cannons and a Liberty cap as well as a patriotic eagle and marked "N.P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield". Spine etched with repeating flower and lead designs. Left side features an Indian with a tomahawk, a mounted cavalry soldier, arms motifs and a large "US". Cast nickel plated brass hilt with relief decorated designs of foliage on each branch, back of quillon and pommel. Black leather wrapped grip with braided copper wire. Steel scabbard with nickel plated mounts. Fair condition; blade very good retaining approximately 90-95% nickel finish with some missing and dark patina around ricasso. Edge has been polished at some time. Otherwise very good with a few scattered dark spots. Hilt retains approximately 90-95% nickel finish with some areas of very dark patina and heavy tarnishing. Grip missing much of leather wrap, with one crack and missing some of copper wire. Scabbard good with dark patina, most of nickel finish on mounts missing and a few minor dents.
