This undated Wickham contracted musket displays the early type vertically deep pan. Wickham produced this musket using tooling and some parts purchased from J. Joseph Henry in a building leased from Henry. This is an early transitional musket. See page 415 of "American Military Shoulder Arms: Volume II by George D. Moller" for a similar example. Browned round smoothbore barrel fitted with bayonet lug on top, near muzzle. Breech stamped deeply "F/P/US" on left side. Brown flintlock mechanism, lockplate with rounded tail section, marked in center "M.T. WICKHAM/PHILA". Standard browned steel early Model 1816 furniture and plain full length walnut stock with "V/G" cartouche behind sideplate complete with steel ramrod. Excellent condition; all steel surfaces retain a brown patina with much of original brown finish still present. Lock appears to be in original flintlock configuration. Buttplate retains a brown patina with some scattered pitting and inscribed on the back "19". Stock excellent with a few light marks. overall this is an excellent example of an early Model 1816 musket.
