Total production was 11,531. Features Model 1868 ramrod and locking mechanism. Model 1870 rear sight graduated to 900 yards. Rifled round steel barrel with block marked "MODEL/1870/US". Flat lockplate dated 1863 at tail and stamped with large eagle and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" in center. Buttplate marked with large "US", standard steel furniture. Walnut stock stamped with three partially visible cartouches on left side, opposite lock. Good condition, all steel components retain a freckled grey patina with strong rifling with scattered areas of black powder corrosion. Action strong. Stock excellent with some edge wear and scattered marks from use.
