These were manufactured between 1889 and 1893, with approximately 65,000 made. One piece trigger guard, grooved and knurled trigger, trapdoor buttplate, 1884 rear sight and two barrel bands with sling swivels marked "U". Block is stamped "U.S./Model/1884". Barrel has "VP" eagle head proof. Lock stamped "U.S Springfield" with eagle. Buttplate is stamped "U.S." and unit stamped "17". Top of buttstock has a unit marking "G/6" and left side of butt stenciled with red paint "26/G6". Walnut stock has cursive proof "P" at base of wrist and left side is stamped with "LWP/1891" cartouche. Stock is excellent with perfect fit and a few scattered marks from use. All metal surfaces are a smooth blue-brown patina. Fine action. Strong rifled bore with minor black powder abrasion. Block with traces of case colors. Extremely fine all original unit marked ramrod bayonet model trapdoor.
