This is a standard U.S. issue Saddle Ring Carbine. Standard 1884 Buffington rear sight, original saddle ring bar and ring, and single band. Block is stamped “U.S./MODEL/1884”. Lock with standard Springfield markings. Left side of walnut stock has a visible but not readable cartouche. Standard carbine steel furniture. This is a very good, solid, as found all original trapdoor carbine. Metal is an even brown patina with scattered traces of blue finish. Wood is very good with a few scattered marks from use. Fine action and very good shiny bore with visible rifling and only some minor black powder abrasions.
