Factory research for this rifle: shipped January 17th, 1888; .40-82; octagon; set trigger. The rifle has close set double set triggers. The heavy barrel is not listed in the research. Caliber is correct. Tang sight not listed in letter. Original standard Winchester sporting sights, full magazine, walnut stock with what looks like XX wood on stock. All metal is basically a brown-grey soft patina. Razor sharp legends. Buttstock is excellent. Forearm does have a hairline crack upper left, probably due to extra heavy barrel. Sharp markings. Frame has two circles at upper left that may have been a repair or plugging where a receiver sight may have been mounted. Bolt has generous amounts of blue. Strong rifling. Extremely difficult to find heavy barrel Model 86, especially with the rare close set triggers.
