This lot consists of a portrait of President James Knox Polk. On the verso of the canvas, the following is written: "James Knox Polk 11th President 1845. Texas promptly admitted into the Union which resulted in the breaking off of diplomatic relations between this Republic and the Republic of Mexico. Framed by (illegible name) Gonzalez 1922. Property S. S. Decmer." Depicted in this portrait is President Polk in a quarter profile, with only slightly part of his face in shadow. The artist depicted him in a black suit coat with white collared shirt and black neck tie. In the distance behind the portrait, instead of a formal background or a solid color, the artist has depicted the Union on the upper left of the background. And on the upper right of the background, is the Republic of Mexico. On the bottom of the frame, there is a plaque noting, "11th President James K. Polk." The painting is framed in a brown colored wooden frame with slight gilding or ornamentation. Overall the piece is in good condition with normal wear present. Please note that the canvas appears to be loose from the frame as some of the backings are old and broken.

Condition: (Very Good - Excellent).

Item Dimensions: Framed: 29-3/4" x 33-3/4".
