Manufactured 1938. This model was introduced in 1932. Its most distinctive feature being the rounded forend with grooves around tip. Features round barrel, gold bead front sight on ramp, Marbles rear sight blank, Redfield tang mounted adjustable peep sight, solid frame, brass cartridge counter, cocking indicator, pistol grip, checkered walnut stock, fluted comb, Savage logo steel serrated shotgun buttplate, and case colored lever. This scarce and desirable Model 99-R remains in near new condition inside and out. Barrel stamp can be found on page 127 as figure A10 in the book "Savage Model 99 Rifle" by David Royal. There are a few very minor high edge wear spots, otherwise overall near mint and one of the nicest we have seen. Razor sharp checkering and legends.
