This is a post-war Model 99R. The post-war model has the heavier forearm (with no pre-war groove), hook-and-eye sling attachment. Post World War II models are drilled and tapped for a Weaver mount. Receiver ring is stamped "SAVAGE MODEL 99". This rifle was manufactured from 1947-60. Serial No. 900000 started in 1954, which makes this example pre-1954. Other features include sporting front and rear sights, blued finish, cocking indicator, jeweled bolt, brass cartridge counter, case colored lever, checkered pistol grip stock, and serrated blued steel buttplate (no logo). Wood is proud to metal with razor sharp checkering and no cracks. Retains virtually all of the original factory blue. 90% case colors on lever. Bright shiny, strong bore. Perfect action. About as nice as a Model 99R as one could find. Worthy of a box.
