This lot consists of a one of a kind oil painting, by well known artist Orren Mixer. Mixer is well known among the artist community for his equestrian paintings. This painting, titled "Secretariat," is the only painting portraying Secretariat in this manner, and it comes with a wonderful provenance. According to the documentation that accompanies this piece, the painting was a gifted to Mr. and Mrs. Rork in 1975. The painting comes along with a Certificate of Registration from the American Quarter Horse Association, and this certificate states that Secretariat is from Bold Ruler's blood line. Even though Mixer is a well known artist, this painting has been undocumented for years, while Mr. and Mrs. Rork owned the piece. The only other owner that is known of this painting is Alan Ellis who directly purchased the piece from Mrs. Rork. This painting by Mixer consists of a painting of the world famous horse, Secretariat. Mixer painted Secretariat from the neck up and Secretariat is shown in a three quarter profile, letting the viewer see the majority of his face with the hint of white on his forehead and a line of color that comes to his nose. On the lower right of the painting, just under Secretariat's nose, Mixer has signed his name along with the title of the piece, "Secretariat, Orren Mixer (copyright), To Good Friend Dan Rork." Overall this painting is in wonderful condition. Mixer has portrayed Secretariat in front of a green and brownish colored background- similar to the outdoors. The painting is framed in a simple wooden frame with a light colored matting surrounded by a hint of gold.
