The first Service Model Ave serial No. 1 was shipped in 1935 and No. 2 was shipped in 1936. This particular gun was made in 1941, prior to World War II. Right side of frame is stamped "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" with serial number and Ordnance wheel at back right. Right side of slide is stamped "COLT SERVICE MODEL ACE .22 LR". Left side of frame is stamped with Colt patent numbers and pony. Has the full adjustable target rear sight. All standard proper early World War II parts to include short checkered trigger, checkered spurless hammer, checkered safety, serrated slide stop, brown plastic Keyes-style grips, serrated arched mainspring housing. Barrel is not stamped. Blued magazine stamped "COLT .22 ACE LR SERVICE MODEL". This pistol retains virtually all of its arsenal reparkerized finish. Strong, clean bore. No serial number on slide under firing pin plate. Production of the Service Model Ace stopped in 1945 and resumed in 1978. A very desirable, scarce U.S. issue target pistol.
