Factory letter lists this pistol as shipped: .38 AMU, blued finish, special notation of unfitted barrel assembly and barrel bushing, sold to U.S. Government, shipped to Ordnance Property Officer building 371 Fort Sam Houston, Texas June 30th, 1961; order No. 10272, 30 guns in shipment. These match pistols were built beginning in the late 1950's on Army contract for the Army Advanced Marksmanship Units. Frame was built in 1961 on standard .38 Super Model. Front grip strap is stippled. Has grooved, adjustable short trigger, serrated arched mainspring housing, serrated safety, serrated slide lock, full checkered walnut grip. Left side of slide is stamped "COLT .38 AMU AUTOMATIC" with pony. Sides of slide are polished. Top of slide is matte finish. Blued barrel is not marked with a "P" on lug. Magazine is marked "COLT .38 AMU", blued, pin base with eight view holes. Slide retains 95% original blue finish with some spotting on right side. Frame retains approximately 90% original blue with some storage marks. This lot comes with an extra proper magazine, two full boxes of .38 AMU ammunition and a copy of the book "Military Match Pistols" by Jenkins the serial number of this pistol is listed on page 77 of the book.
